Since 2019, Luis and Alicia had been renting their home from Lacasa. They took pride in paying rent on time and creating a stable, welcoming space for their family. Over the years, their house became more than just a place to live, it became home.
When the opportunity came to buy the property, they were both surprised and grateful. Lacasa offered them the chance to purchase it before it went on the market, and with support from the DreamSavers Individual Development Account (IDA) Program, they received $4,500 in matched savings to help make their dream of homeownership a reality.
“This is the only home I’ve ever known,” their daughter Jennifer said. “This is where all my memories are.”
The DreamSavers Program helps individuals and families save toward meaningful financial goals such as homeownership, education, or purchasing a vehicle. Participants receive matched savings and one-on-one financial coaching to build long-term stability and confidence.
For Luis and Alicia, this opportunity meant more than buying a house, it meant securing a future. Their journey from renting to homeownership reflects what the DreamSavers Program is all about: turning dedication and financial growth into lasting empowerment.
As Lacasa continues to provide affordable housing and financial education across Elkhart County, stories like Luis and Alicia’s remind us why this work matters. Every milestone reached through DreamSavers represents a stronger, more stable community, one family at a time.
