Housing, Partnership, and a New Beginning at Lakeview Drive

For young adults aging out of the foster care system, the transition into adulthood often comes with a long list of unknowns.

Where will I live?
Who can I rely on?
What happens next?

For some of the young adults visiting Lakeview Drive this week, there was another layer to that uncertainty — moving to a community they may have never lived in before.

Housing developments like this are still relatively uncommon in Indiana, which means potential residents may be coming from communities across the state in search of stable housing and supportive services. Walking into a new place, meeting new people, and imagining a completely different future can feel both exciting and overwhelming at the same time.

That’s part of why last week’s open house mattered.

Hosted by Bashor Children’s Home, the event gave young adults interested in the housing an opportunity to tour the development, ask questions, meet staff, and spend time getting familiar with both the space and the people connected to it.

More than anything, it gave them a chance to begin seeing what could be possible.

The atmosphere throughout the evening felt welcoming and relaxed. Conversations filled the room as prospective residents, staff, and community partners spent time getting to know one another over food provided by Ricky’s Taqueria.

The housing opportunities at Lakeview Drive are part of a broader partnership between Lacasa and Bashor Children’s Home focused on helping young adults transitioning out of foster care find not only stable housing, but support, connection, and community as well.

Because while housing itself is critically important, feeling safe and supported in a new environment matters too.

Projects like this take more than construction. They require organizations willing to work together, supporters who invest in long-term solutions, and communities willing to create space for people starting a new chapter of life.

As construction continues at Lakeview Drive, the goal is not simply to provide housing units. It is to help create a place where young adults can begin building stability, relationships, confidence, and a future of their own.
