Reliable transportation affects a lot more than just getting from one place to another.
It can mean getting to work consistently, making appointments on time, picking your kids up from school, or simply getting through the week with a little less stress.
This week, Ashley Bowen from Lacasa visited the Automotive Service Training program at Goodwill Academy in St. Joseph County to speak with soon-to-be graduates about transportation, vehicle ownership, and the programs Lacasa offers to help eligible participants prepare for purchasing and maintaining a vehicle.
The group has spent the last eight weeks preparing for careers in the automotive industry, but the conversation quickly became about more than just cars.
Participants shared their goals for the future, talked honestly about the realities of owning a vehicle, and offered practical advice about maintenance and avoiding major repair problems before they happen. Their perspective brought real-world insight into the challenges many people face trying to keep reliable transportation on the road long term.
What stood out most was how quickly the conversation connected back to everyday life.
Reliable transportation affects work schedules, family routines, financial stability, and the ability to plan ahead with confidence. One unexpected breakdown can create stress that impacts far more than a commute.
The visit was also a reminder that helping people move forward often takes support from different places.
Goodwill Industries of Michiana is helping participants prepare for careers and build valuable skills in the automotive industry. Lacasa helps connect eligible participants to financial coaching, transportation support programs, and matched savings opportunities. Through Lacasa’s Auto Loan Program, Interra Credit Union serves as the lending partner helping provide responsible financing options for eligible participants.
Together, those connections can help create more stability and opportunity for individuals and families working toward their goals.
Lacasa is grateful to Goodwill for creating space for these conversations and helping connect people to resources that support long-term success.
