Irene doesn’t remember how she first heard about lacasa’s Money 4 Life classes. It may have been through a flyer she saw at work. While in the class she learned more about lacasa’s Dream$aver IDA program. She said to herself, “Here I am, 30 years old, and I have nothing to show for it and nothing to leave to my daughters.” She gave herself a year to work on cleaning up credit and to begin saving for a home.
Irene states, “I never thought I could save money. I really liked Money 4 Life and learning how to save. The coaching was also very significant. It was very helpful to set smaller goals on the path to my bigger goals. I just had no idea how the bad decisions from my past could continue to hurt me in the present.
Working on all this took discipline and commitment!”
The IDA savings account required Irene to save into her account by using direct deposit. This process taught her how to save. She was encouraged by the match funds going into her account and watching it grow over time. She reached her savings goal and not only continued savings but increased the amount deposited. Additionally she has begun to build an emergency home repair fund. She states, “I NEVER would have been able to save for a home on my own.”
Irene is grateful to lacasa for all its help along the way. She never thought that the light at the end of the tunnel would be her own home.
