Lacasa, Inc. is pleased to announce that Surf Internet has generously provided fiber-optic broadband internet connectivity to several Lacasa affordable housing communities, transforming affordable fiber internet into a reality for our resident families.

According to Brad Hunsberger, Vice President of Real Estate Development, the importance, and opportunity of this initiative came through recent grants supporting renovations at The Hattle in Goshen, the construction of apartment buildings in Goshen and Elkhart, and the establishment of a permanent supportive housing project on the edge of Oaklawn’s Goshen campus. Lacasa recognized the importance of enhancing digital access for the residents of these locations and collaborated with Surf Internet due to their shared understanding of the crucial role in bridging the digital divide within our community.

Hunsberger emphasized, “Working with Surf was a natural choice because they recognize the significance of narrowing the digital gap. Internet access can positively impact the lives of low-income families, ranging from improving employment opportunities to facilitating students’ ability to work on homework. We are delighted to join forces with Surf Internet in this effort to make a positive impact on our community.

“The digital divide isn’t just present in rural areas where the technology literally isn’t there yet,” said Gene Crusie, CEO of Surf Internet. “For low-income families who face financial difficulties in access advanced technology, the divide is just as real. Through projects like Lacasa, Surf is helping ensure that everyone in the Great Lakes region can access high-speed affordable internet regardless of geographic location or socioeconomic status.”
